Exams and Courses

The MinER Center offers a B Reading training course led by NIOSH-certified B Readers Dr. Robert Cohen, MinER Center Director, and Dr. Leonard Go, MinER Center Assistant Director. The training course includes the certification exam. A stand-alone exam is also offered. All activities are held at UIC School of Public Health, 1603 W. Taylor St., Chicago IL 60612.

The exam (conducted in BViewer software) and equipment are the same as NIOSH. The exam is sent to NIOSH for scoring, and they return the result. An exam overview is located at the NIOSH B Reader Exam Overview page.

To preserve the fillable fields on the pdf form:

  • Download the file at the link above by right-clicking the link and selecting "Save Link As." Follow the prompts to save the file locally as a pdf.
  • Open the file from your saved location to fill in the form. Once a digital signature is applied to the pdf form, it will need to be saved again and will then be locked.

If you click on the link and open in your browser, you can fill in all fields except the signature field; this will need to be done manually after you’ve completed and saved the form.

Course and exam fee: $2,800.00 USD

8:30 am – 5:00 pm Days 1 and 2; 7:00 am – 4:30 pm Day 3

Payment

Payment is due upon confirmation of exam/course scheduling. Payment instructions provided upon confirmation; credit cards only.

Cancellation Policy

If canceled within one week of scheduled date, refund of fee less $25.00 for exams and less $100.00 for courses. No refunds for cancellations less than one week ahead of scheduled date.

The MinER Center is located at 1603 W. Taylor St., Chicago, IL 60612 and is approximately 20 miles from O’Hare International Airport and approximately eight miles from Midway International Airport.

Because the training course and exam are small activities, we do not have discount agreements in place with nearby hotels. The accommodations below are provided for informational purposes only and are located within a 10-minute walk of the MinER Center.
